MDX's Technology Receives Grant From Canadian Institutes of Health Research
Vancouver, BC - (September 22, 2005) MDX Medical Inc. (TSX.V: MDX) announced today that the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has awarded a grant to support research to advance development of the Company's NIRS Urodynamics medical device. The device is a breakthrough in bladder care providing non-invasive monitoring in the diagnosis of urinary incontinence and bladder dysfunction.
Barry Allen, President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "This grant will allow us to devote additional technical resources to accelerate our NIRS Urodynamics device toward commercialization. Additionally, the grant creates a working relationship with the CIHR and will allow MDX to explore collaboration with other government research funding organizations."
Research work covered by the grant will occur over the next year and will be conducted at the UBC Bladder Care Centre. This research will establish baseline factors of NIRS for the bladder as well as establishing characteristic NIRS tracings for each of the major bladder conditions. These tracing patterns will enable the diagnostic capabilities of urodynamics spectrograms, in a similar way that EKG reference patterns characterize cardiomyopathies.
